Help Wanted

Help_Wanted_MapsAndLanterns.orgEver been in a situation where you really needed help, but could not bring yourself to ask for it? Help is a four letter word that many of us have an aversion to. Being able to seek out and yield to available help is probably the greatest indication of strength. We are not less than because we get help, we are actually operating in strength when we seek out what results in our success. Help wanted!

Many of us seem to be infected with a malady that causes us to avoid asking for help–at all cost. Perhaps we feel superior to the available help. Maybe we have found fault with the obvious sources of help. Could it be that we are so confident that we already possess the tools needed to succeed that there is no need to look for support or assistance?

Personals

Let’s see what that has looked like for us, on a personal level, in the past. Think about the last time that you were in a situation where you used all of your resources, doing everything you could to get a desired outcome. You pursued what you thought to be success without reaching your desired goal. Then, possibly in desperation, you asked for and received the help you needed that made the difference.

How did you feel in the moment when you tried all that you knew to do and it did not work? After changing your attitude and seeking out assistance, how did you feel in the moment when you knew taking the available help was the key to your success?

There are times when asking for help does not create an instant positive outcome however, it may eliminate or illuminate information that does lead to success. In any case, without the ability to access help, in a timely manner can cause us to be stuck in a stagnate place of desolation. Help wanted!

Who Needs Help?

When we ask for help there has to be an assumption that we are unable to do everything in our own strength. The words arrogant, superior, big-headed, haughty, proud, nor conceited come to mind with thinking of a person open to assistance. Humble, seems more appropriate as a trait of someone seeking assistance.

Knowing when, and where to seek help is fundamental. There are times when you are operating in your strength and are not in need of assistance. There are times when your environment appears to be surrounded with haystacks and you are not up for the challenge of searching for the proverbial needle inside one of them.

We are sometimes in the throes of a dilemma we have no way of even expressing, not to mention, trying to articulate our need. Help wanted.

We are relational beings. We were created to interact with each other. We all have areas where we excel and are talented. The more we operate in strength in our areas of gifting we are able to see our challenges. In those areas of challenge we need help. When we were made in the image of our Creator, He determined that our elder brother Adam was not to be alone. Indeed he needed a help mate.

No Help Wanted

Possibly you are not in search of an Eve or an Adam. So you suppose that you need no help. Alright, let’s go with that. Then is it possible you have weaknesses that you may be unaware of?

The Apostle Paul, the accomplished writer of about two thirds of the New Testament, establisher of numerous churches, a frequent prisoner for is open belief in God, and a reformed persecutor of believers, has something to say about weakness.

After begging God three times to remove his weakness Paul recorded this passage in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10:

“And then he told me, My grace is enough; it’s all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness. Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ’s strength moving on my weakness. Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size—abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become.” (The Message Version)

We live in a world where we will continue to experience difficulties yet we are to take comfort in knowing that Jesus has conquered this world. When we go to our Creator and ask Him for help He (The Source) will guide us on a path that leads to the proper strategies to receive help. Likewise we become a support to others in need of help too.

When we are able to see help wanted as a way of assisting ourselves and others to operate in success we are operating in strength.

Help wanted…a way to be stronger.
